About Jackie Sherman, PhD

Her clients describe her as:  Intentional, clear, direct, insightful, a superb listener, curious, someone who asks excellent questions, committed, and caring.

She's best known for: Masterfully synthesizing principles and frameworks for organizational change, and applying and teaching them.

What makes her tick:  Making the world a better place.

"I have always been a teacher … from the time I was in high school I've been able to take something that was complex and mysterious and make it understandable.  I am a voracious learner, and am passionate about sharing what I've learned to make a difference.

"I am fascinated by organizations and the world of work. We spend more than 2000 hours per year in our work environments – for many that includes being part of an organization.  Creating organizations that achieve their mission and vision AND "work" for their people – that's what drives me – not one or the other, but BOTH."

Favorite part of her work:  Working with leaders who are trying to achieve something new or challenging and are committed to results for both the organization and its people.

Jackie's Background and Experience

Jackie is a unique blend of right brain and bottom line. Jackie holds a PhD and MS in economics from the University of Michigan, a BS magna cum laude from Tufts University, and a Certificate in Business from New York University.  She has extensive professional training in the Gestalt approach to working with organizations, groups, and small systems from the Gestalt OSD Center and the Gestalt International Study Center (GISC).  Jackie has a certificate in ontological coaching from the Newfield Network and is an ICF Professional Certified Coach.  She has advanced training in strategy development, strategic planning, redesign of business processes, large group interventions, appreciative inquiry, and managing change.  Jackie has taught in the HROD program at the University of Georgia and is adjunct faculty at the Gestalt International Studies Center.

Corporate Employment: Before starting her own consulting firm in 1999, Jackie held consulting positions with two Fortune 50 companies.  As Principal Consultant with Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), she designed and implemented an integrated re-engineering and change management service which drove profitability, quality, and customer/employee satisfaction for DEC's customers.  As a Senior Consultant with the Organization Capability Group of BP-Amoco Corporation, she was responsible for organization development consulting and training services which enabled her client divisions to achieve their strategic objectives.  By spearheading the use of large group interventions, Jackie accelerated implementation of strategy, new organization design, and the design and implementation of new business processes.

Working from a systemic perspective – clarifying vision and strategy, and aligning structure, business process, people, and rewards to support them – Jackie enables an organization to be far more valuable than the sum of its parts.  She is an expert in many areas of organizational change, including Strategic Planning & Implementation; Team Development; Group Process Design; Executive Coaching; Change Management; Reengineering & Work Redesign; Board Development; and Capacity Building.

Her community and volunteer activities include leadership roles with the Organization Change Alliance, the Horizon Theatre Company and Georgia Executive Women's Network.  After being a mentee herself in this program, she began mentoring in the Pathbuilders Achieva Leadership Program (previously called Georgia 100) in 1999.
